Hurricane Irene Expected to Hit the Southern and U.S. This Week. While OCEAN CITY, Md. - Ocean City has activated phase three of its hurricane action plan in preparation for Irene and will evacuate the city.

Ocean City officials have ordered thousands of residents and visitors to evacuate the Maryland beachfront community, and the state's governor has declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Irene approaches.

Ocean City, Maryland, mandatory evacuations were ordered beginning at midnight, while in parts of North Carolina, including Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks, evacuations of residents and tourists were already underway.

More than 1000 individuals have gathered in the Ocean City Convention Center to be transported to safe locations, according to Ian Patrick Hines, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Human Resources.

Odd Future's frontman Tyler the Creator didn't pull out the hysterics and wild antics during his acceptance speech, but instead decided to keep it a little less dramatic as he accepted the Moonman for Best New Artist.

Tyler gave an expletive-riddled acceptance speech, admitting he didn't prepare one, and also confessed that he had dreamed of winning an MTV trophy since the age of 9. He ended the address with what seemed to be an inspirational statement to young fans, but it was largely bleeped by MTV so there isn't much to quote.

The MTV award was for the single "Yonkers" from his solo effort "Goblin," released on indie XL Recordings. The win was something of a surprise for MTV, as it veered from the popularity-contest feel of the show, as "Goblin" has long disappeared from Billboard's top-200 albums chart.

Earlier, Beyonce revealed that she was pregnant with a few knowing rubs of her belly, and gave a rousing performance of "Love on Top," a gleefully chipper single, while Orange County's rising Young the Giant was given a prime slot for its energetic alt-rock single "My Body."

National Grid

A map on National Grid's website shows neighborhoods without power. Thousands of Johnston residents are without power this afternoon as high. National Grid handles the transmission and distribution of electricity and natural gas to customers in New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

National Grid says that power is out to more than 270,000 of  its 480,000 Rhode Island customers. The utility company has 6,500 people working in Rhode Island today from linemen to engineers and phone operators to handle the damage being done by Hurricane Irene.

There are also 80 private contractor crews assisting the National Grid repair operations, many coming from the Midwest.

Still, it will be days before power is fully restored in Rhode Island, according to spokesman David Graves, and "It could be into next weekend before all customers are restored,".

The total number of Rhode Island customers without power hit 277,00 at 4 p.m. Another 5,000 customers from the Pascoag Utility District are also without electricity.

Nearly 300,000 Rhode Islanders are without power tonight as National Grid workers begin to repair the "catastrophic damage" Hurricane Irene inflicted on the state's electrical system.

Restoring power to all communities will take several days, according to Tim Horan, regional president for National Grid. Some can expect to remain in the dark until the end of the week. Horan said he does not yet know which areas will remain dark the longest and the company will have a better handle on the estimate after further assessing the damage overnight.

"The damage is extensive. It's amazing the size of the poles that have fallen," Horan said. "We know it will be multiple days."

Major transmission lines are out of service, and 20 substations — about one-third of the number in the state — are offline. National Grid has 600 employees in the field working to repair the damage, but efforts are hampered by the sheer number of trees that have fallen. The problem is not concentrated to any specific pockets of Rhode Island, but is widespread.

National Grid is working first on "critical customers" — hospitals, police stations and fire stations — as well as repairing major transmission lines to get as many people back online as quickly as possible.

"We've been spared the massive flooding; we've been spared the storm surge, but we have, as you all know, extensive tree damage," Chafee said. "National Grid has been working hard to get your power back. They have given this their highest designation. They've categorized it as a ctastrophic power outage here in Rhode Island."

Hurricane Irene hits the U.S. coast. The National Hurricane Center said late Sunday morning that the tropical storm's maximum sustained winds had decreased to about 97 km/h.

Irene was to continue weakening as it passes over New England, and it's expected to move over eastern Canada by Sunday night. It remains a massive storm, however, with powerful winds extending more than 480 kilometres from the centre.

Forecasters say the storm is currently centered about 10 miles west of Danbury, Connecticut. It is moving to the north-northeast at 42 km/h. Rainfall overflowed sewers and seawater lapped at sidewalks at the edges of New York from densely populated lower Manhattan to the far reaches of Queens as a weakening Irene made landfall over Coney Island early Sunday.

A possible storm surge on the fringes of lower Manhattan could send seawater streaming into the maze of underground vaults that hold the city's cables and pipes, knocking out power to thousands and crippling the nation's financial capital, forecasters said. Officials feared water lapping at Wall Street, ground zero and the luxury high-rise apartments of Battery Park City. A tornado warning was briefly issued for the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens early Sunday.

A little past 9 a.m., the wind ebbed, the rain stopped and residents of Brooklyn's Brighton Beach section came out of their homes to look at the pounding Atlantic surf.

New York power utility Consolidated Edison (ED.N) said on Sunday it hasn't made a final decision on whether to cut power to Lower Manhattan due to storm surges, but flooding in the area appeared less severe than some forecasters had expected. Consolidated Edison supplies power to more than 3 million homes and businesses in New York City -- or more than 8 million residents -- said that around 95,000 of its customers had experienced power cuts so far in the city and nearby Westchester County. But so far only one customer was affected in the borough of Manhattan, which includes New York's low-lying Financial District.

Any decision to cut power pre-emptively to Lower Manhattan could still be made in the coming hours, but "flooding there is not looking as bad as some expected," said spokesman Chris Olert.

There's a result of a new study tells that Male Circumcision could Reduces the Chances of Human Papillomavirus. The study shows that it could lower the risk of herpes and HPV in men who are circumcised.

Male circumcision is the cutting off of a small amount of skin from the tip of the penis. In many parts of the world it is done when a baby is a few days old. However, in other parts of the world it is unacceptable.

Studies have shown that male circumcision can reduce a man's risk of getting HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Now, a new study shows that it can also reduce a man's risk of getting human papillomavirus, or HPV. The research also shows circumcision reduces the risk for another common sexually transmitted infection, genital herpes. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The study was led by scientists at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and Makerere University in Uganda. It involved about three thousand four hundred uncircumcised Ugandan men between the ages of fifteen and forty-nine. None had HIV, genital herpes or HPV at the start of the study. The men were split into two groups. One group got immediate circumcisions. The others had it done two years later.

All the men were tested for sexually passed diseases four times in the next two years. The researchers found that those who had been circumcised were twenty-eight percent less likely to get genital herpes than uncircumcised men. They were thirty-three percent less likely to get HPV.

There is a vaccine against the human papillomavirus. American medical officials have advised that the vaccine, called Gardasil, be given to girls around age eleven. But, like circumcision, it is an issue of public debate. Some American parents argue that the vaccine will make their girls more likely to have sex early. Others question the vaccine's safety and effectiveness.

Monday’s unusual storm which brought more than 2 inches of rain to the West End on Monday was “seen” for the first time by the region’s new weather radar system.

Installed only since spring, the new Doppler radar station near Ocean Shores in Grays Harbor County helped the National Weather Service issue a flood advisory Monday for the West End.

The domed tower is still in the testing mode, but its radar detected heavy bands of rainfall from Cape Flattery to Ocean Shores, said Jay Albrecht, National Weather Service meteorologist in Seattle.
“It’s beautiful, actually,” he said.
“It showed all the rain. We were able to see heavy precipitation in Forks.”

Until now, the Weather Service’s Doppler station on Camano Island near Everett was blinded by the Olympic Mountains, leaving an undetected “hole” on the Pacific coast.
“Forks received more than 2.6 inches of rain in just five hours,” said Jay Albrecht, National Weather Service meteorologist.

We are often told true talent always shines through and genius never goes by unnoticed, which is why we should learn to make the difference between the artist and the person s/he is in real life.

Clearly, that never applied to Michael Jackson, arguably the most talented pop artist ever to come out, and undeniably the most popular and successful: for nearly two decades, his last years of life, the media and the public deliberately chose to ignore the truth because scandal was a much more profitable business than actual fact.

Facts
In 1993, when his personal life had already become tabloid fodder and not a day went by without at least one Jackson story, Michael Jackson was accused of molesting a child. 13-year-old Jordan Chandler and his father, Dr. Evan Chandler, went public with the story, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the claims.

In December that same year, Neverland Ranch is raided by police: documents and other items are removed from the premises, and Michael is submitted to a 23-minute strip search that leaves him feeling so humiliated he will never recover from it.

Because of inconclusive evidence, the jury is disbanded and Michael is never prosecuted.

At his lawyers’ recommendations, Michael settles with the Chandlers outside of court even though, as Katherine said just recently, he didn’t want to because he knew that would make him feel guilty.

Facts
In May 2002, Michael decides to do something he’d never done before: very shy and fiercely protective of his personal life (not that anyone can blame him, though), he agrees to allow BBC journalist Martin Bashir and his cameras into his life for the chance to tell the world his story, unbiased, unedited and brutally honest.

Bashir had previously achieved international acclaim after a very revealing and groundbreaking interview with Princess Diana – it was Di who convinced Michael to do this because she trusted Bashir, which would explain why the singer never saw what happened next coming.

“Living with Michael Jackson” aired in the UK in March 2003, 10 years after the first molestation allegation was made. One particular scene shows Michael holding hands with Gavin Arvizo (13), as Gavin leans his head on the singer’s shoulder, and they talk about their sleeping arrangements for when the boy spends the night in Michael’s bedroom.

In the footage that the public saw at the time, there was no doubting Bashir’s intentions, as he repeatedly tells Michael it’s not normal for a 44-year-old to sleep in the same bed with other people’s children, asking him if he at least understood why people may see something wrong with it.

Unaware of what is being implied, Michael smiles throughout the whole “interrogatory,” saying there’s nothing wrong with it, that children need “touching” and “hugging,” and that love can heal the world.

The public was shocked by what it saw: the apparent admission of a guilty man who, most importantly, laughed in their worried faces while admitting he did, indeed, sleep with children in the same bed.

Authorities acted accordingly, with Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon out to get the public their guilty man: Michael was indicted for four counts of molesting a minor, four counts of intoxicating a minor, one count of abduction, and one count of conspiring to hold the boy and his family captive at Neverland.

On July 13, 2005, a jury finds Michael not guilty on all charges.
Also fact: Throughout the entire trial, the media deliberately reports only on the sensational claims made in court, ignoring testimonies and evidence that prove said claims are bogus, in what Charles Thomson of The Huffington Post aptly names “the most shameful episode in journalistic history.”

London Gangs of Youths Went on Rampage

The violence that started in Tottenham at the weekend after a man was shot dead by officers spread throughout the capital. As a response, the Scotland Yard inform tat 334 people had been arrested, 69 charged and two cautioned across the capital, as over 1,700 extra police were deployed across London.

The violence has come after a peaceful protest in Tottenham on Saturday, which followed the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan, 29, on Thursday. In Hackney, rioters, many wearing hoods and masks, were confronted by police lines spanning the streets, occasionally moving forward to push the groups back.

At least three officers were injured being hit by stones and other objects hurled at them including chairs and pieces of wood. Scotland Yard said between 250 to 300 people had gathered on the Pembury Estate, setting alight cars and throwing petrol bombs.

Looting and outbreaks of violence was also recorded by officers in Newham, Lewisham and Bethnal Green, where more than 100 people looted a Tesco premises and two officers were injured.
