Books on Doppler Radar

For a better understanding of the weather, hurricane to be specific, we can use Doppler Radar. Doppler Radar have many usability. One of them is to catch a glimpse of what happen inside a hurricane.

The day after I bought this book, I made a mistake telling a colleague about it, after which it was very difficult to track it down who has it and who is using it in a team of several Radar Engineers. They had all used it as a definitive reference book on any aspect of Radar design - it covers everything that you need to know and want to know right NOW about a Radar clearly and accurately.

Our National Weather Service operates 24/7 and collects information from "121 weather stations around the country." A full 187 countries "also gather weather information" and belong to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). In this book you'll get right down to the nitty gritty and learn how a forecast is made with everything from weather balloons to Doppler radar, a type of "radar that can measure the speed and direction of moving objects such as raindrops and snowflakes." Scientists send out alerts when inclement weather is approaching and you'll learn the difference between a watch, a warning, and an advisory.

You'll learn about composite radar images, Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES), Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellites (POES), "super computers," how computers draw maps, you'll learn how to read a weather map, you'll learn weather lingo, how to make your own predictions, how and why forecasters can err in their predictions, you'll learn about climate change and much more. Doppler Radar

Like in the movie Tornado, we can use A Doppler radar to produce velocity data about objects at a distance, also, we can use it to detect the velocity of a vehicle running (the police use it) and we can use it as a weather radar.
A Doppler Radar could gave a 12-minute tornado warning as a weather radar.

A doppler radar does this by beaming a microwave signal towards a desired target and listening for its reflection, then analyzing how the frequency of the returned signal has been altered by the object's motion.

Monday’s unusual storm which brought more than 2 inches of rain to the West End on Monday was “seen” for the first time by the region’s new weather radar system.

Installed only since spring, the new Doppler radar station near Ocean Shores in Grays Harbor County helped the National Weather Service issue a flood advisory Monday for the West End.

The domed tower is still in the testing mode, but its radar detected heavy bands of rainfall from Cape Flattery to Ocean Shores, said Jay Albrecht, National Weather Service meteorologist in Seattle.
“It’s beautiful, actually,” he said.
“It showed all the rain. We were able to see heavy precipitation in Forks.”

Until now, the Weather Service’s Doppler station on Camano Island near Everett was blinded by the Olympic Mountains, leaving an undetected “hole” on the Pacific coast.
“Forks received more than 2.6 inches of rain in just five hours,” said Jay Albrecht, National Weather Service meteorologist.
