Diabetes Needle Disposal

Needle is a little thing that is sharp enough to puncture through our skin.
Diabetes needles refer to syringes used to deliver insulin that gently puncture the skin for blood glucose checks.
According to Diabetes Monitor, more than 1 billion needles are used in the U.S. annually for diabetic-related health care, that's is quite a number if you count it one by one. Proper disposal of these needles or "sharps" is very important to protect yourself and others from potential harm and infection.

Little tips on Needle disposal:

1. Place used insulin needles in a sturdy plastic or metal container.
2. Secure the lid of your container down with duct tape when it's full if you're using a makeshift container like a coffee can to prevents any accidental needle contact for whoever handles your disposed insulin needles..
3. Use the Safe Needle Disposal search engine for disposal centers.
4. When traveling away from home, an alternative to carrying a sharps container is a needle cutter. The needle cutter safely clips the syringe needle near the base and stores it until you can deposit the clipped needles in an appropriate sharps container. These needle cutters can also be purchased at most drug stores.
