Nome Alaska

Nome Alaska is expected to be one of the hardest hit communities. In Kotzebue, Wendy Schaefer is the community incident commander. She says winds are picking up, but currently there are no evacuation orders for any communities within the Northwest Arctic (Alaska Weather).

Stores in Nome, Alaska were pretty well stocked, but some businesses closed early. The bigger concern was for Alaska Natives in the 18 villages in the region, where the brunt of the storm was supposed to hit.

This is one of the storms to ever develop in the Bering Sea and it's bearing down on Alaska. This storm is comparable to the November 11th-12th 1974 storm, which remains as the most severe Bering Sea storm to ever hit Nome, Alaska.
